Frequently Asked Questions

1.-What do I need to rent a car?

You must present a valid driver's license and your identification card or passport. You must also have a credit card ( Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club or American Express.) with an available quota of US $ 800.

2.-Can I leave a check or cash as guaranty?

No, we only accept credit cards as guaranty.

3.-What does the insurance cover?

The Standard Insurance (included in the rates) covers own damages, theft and damages to third persons. A deductible equivalent to US $ 800 will be applied in case of damages or theft of the rented car. The insurance includes road assistance during the 24 hours a day anywhere in the chilean territory. The Standard Insurance is obligatory.

Our office is open in the following times:

- Monday to Friday, from 8:30 A. M. to 19:00 P.M. continuously.
- On Saturdays, from 9:00 A.M. to 14:00 P.M..

5.-Is it possible to deliver or return a vehicle out of office hours mentioned above?

Yes, it is. An additional charge must be paid. The charges are the following:


- Delivery / return on Saturdays after 02:00 P.M., on Sundays and Holidays is CLP $15.000.
- Delivery / return out of the office hours must be informed at least 24 hours in advance.

6.-Can I drive in Chile using the driver`s license of my country or I need an international license?

You can drive in Chile with a valid driver`s license of your country so it is not necessary to have an international license.

7.-Can I travel to Argentina in a rented car?

Yes, you can. However, you must obtain a special permission and an additional insurance. We offer both services for you with an additional charge. You must indicate you want to travel to Argentina when you make your reservation.

8.-Can I travel to Peru and Bolivia in a rented car?

No,unfortunately all of the chilean insurances are not valid in Peru and Bolivia, therefore it is not possible to enter to these countries in a rented vehicle. (See Service Table).

9.-Can I return the vehicle abroad?

No, the vehicle must be taken and returned in Chile.

10.-Can I rent a vehicle in a city and return it in another one?

Yes, you can. However, there is an additional charge which is determined by the distance and its mileage between both cities.(See Additional Services).

11.-Are additional drivers allowed?

Yes, two additional drivers are allowed at no cost. The additional driver must be 21 years old, and to present a valid driver's license, identification card, passport or ID.

12.-How do I make a reservation?

13.-How can I cancel my reservation?

You must notify us at least 72 hours in advance to avoid charges.

14.-What happens if I have an accident?

In order to make effective the ALAMEDA RENT A CAR insurance, the driver of the rented car must report and record what happened at the nearest police station to the place of the accident. Then, the driver of the rented car must inform to ALAMEDA RENT A CAR no later than 24 hours the accident occured.

15.-What happens if I have an accident in Argentina?

When you pay your permission to Argentina the insurance is put into practice inmediately.

16.-Do foreigners pay VAT tax? ( IVA tax means Additional Value Tax, wich corresponds to the 19%).

Yes, according to the chilean current legislation chileans and foreigners must pay VAT tax when they rent a car.
